Headshot Tips
When it comes to headshots, what you wear says as much as your expression. The right clothing helps communicate professionalism, confidence, and attention to detail, without stealing the spotlight.
Here’s what I recommend:
For Men:
*Shirts: Stick with solid colors or subtle patterns. Crisp white, light blue, or medium grey dress shirts always photograph well. Avoid loud prints or logos.
*Ties (if worn): A tie adds polish, especially in corporate settings. Choose classic colors (navy, burgundy, deep green) and conservative patterns like stripes or small dots. Avoid novelty or overly bright designs.
*Jackets (optional): A well-fitted blazer or suit jacket elevates the look, even if you remove it mid-shoot.
For Women:
*Tops: Opt for solid colors or soft patterns. Jewel tones (emerald, sapphire, burgundy) photograph beautifully and flatter most skin tones. Avoid low necklines, overly bulky layers, or flashy logos.
*Necklines: Boatneck, crew, and subtle v-neck styles work well—flattering but not distracting.
*Accessories: Keep it simple. Small earrings or a delicate necklace can enhance the look, but large statement pieces can steal attention.
Universal Tips:
*Stick to clothes that fit well and feel like you—your comfort shows.
*Iron or steam your wardrobe beforehand. Wrinkles are distracting.
*Avoid pure white or neon colors, which can throw off lighting or reflect poorly on the face.
*When in doubt, bring a few options. A good photographer will help guide you.
Your headshot is your visual handshake—make it count.
